Only around one in ten people who go around looking at boats are seriously in a position to make an offer and buy. It is most likely that the others are either waiting to sell their boat or are "trying to decide what kind of boat to get next". Unfortunately it is near impossible to tell one from the other. The more people that you can get to look at your boat, sooner you will sell her. The first thing to do is to make the boat impressively attractive.
The second thing to do is to have a detailed description of your boat giving sufficient information to attract the kind of buyer that you would expect. This means going into detail on the mechanics, electronics, galley, heads, accommodation, navigation aids, berth arrangements, equipment and performance. These descriptions can be made much more meaningful by including appropriate photographs and extracts from manufacturers brochures. A couple of paragraphs describing your impressions of the boat, how she performs and why you are selling her, all add to the information that will influence a buyer.
The third thing to do is to get the price right. Too high and you will get no viewers. Too low and you will probably sell quickly but loose out financially. The fourth thing to do is make sure that potential buyers know about YOUR boat. You need the best coverage possible with as many active buyers as possible looking at, and studying, your boats details.
The EasternYachts group of linked web sites averages over 5,000 page views per day. We advertise our boats in the boating press.
By including a detailed guided photo-tour of your boat we automatically filter out all but the most serious of buyers. And they will know exactly what they are coming to see. What they are doing is coming to confirm the expectation that they have already built up.
Our service produces a comprehensive photo-guide to your boat including specifications, layout diagrams, sail plan, etc, as much as you can supply. We take a hundred plus photographs of your boat, both inside and out, and put them together as web pages along with information that you provide. This gives prospective buyers the best detailed knowledge of what they will find when they come to view her.
The web pages are loaded on to our server and are indexed on all of the applicable pages in our EasternYachts web site and on other commercial web sites. We advertise your vessel in the appropriate magazines. If you have chosen a sensible price and made your boat ready to sell, the buyer will be totally impressed when he sees the real thing and he will want to buy. When a sale is agreed, usually Subject to Survey, we look after all of the paperwork to protect everyone's interests.
"Dear Adrian,
Just a quick note to thank you for selling my yacht. A one-off design lying in Southern Italy on a British flag has quite a limited market and through your efforts at marketing I was able to find a buyer within a few months. Thank you also for you patience in dealing with potential buyers and for processing the Sale and Purchase Agreement and subsequent sale and transfer of monies so efficiently. I will certainly recommend to any friend who has a boat to sell.
Yours sincerely,
Doug from Italy"
