The vessel is of immensely strong construction being built with Iroko planking on massive Oak frames. She has tremendous sea-keeping qualities.
The Kelvin engine and gearbox are extremely reliable and robust. A true marine unit successfully applied to commercial craft
The vessel has undergone a major refit in a boatyard specialising in this type of work which includes replacing the deck and bulwark stanchions, wheelhouse roof and beams, steering gear overhauled. The hull bulwarks and wheelhouse were stripped to bare wood, primed, undercoated several times before gloss painting and varnishing. New stem head rollers fitted. All metalwork including mast tabernacles and chain plates have been renewed.
The refit has been ongoing since 1997 and only requires some internal work to complete
