Hunter's brochure report on the PBO test in a February Force 8 gale!

To get the idea of how it feels to sail from inside a deck saloon in such unwelcome conditions, here's what PBO said:
"It only took a matter of minutes to become accustomed to the way she handled, and the difference between being out in the elements, and snugly installed indoors was immense. We were making good progress, tramping along at 5 to 5.5 knots... she never gave a moment's anxiety.

Happy with her upwind performance, we turned tail... even with a spiteful following sea, she steered a steady course, needing very little work on the wheel to keep her going straight and true".

And what about motor-sailing?
After all, few owners want to beat to windward in a gale (even if PBO did!). PBO tried this as well... and found it worked very well. Under just engine and mainsail alone, we were able to sail high to the wind at a good 6 knots with less than 2000rpm registering on the tachometer". And, in case you should forget, all this was done in a Twin Keel version. Proving beyond all doubt that Hunter 'Twin Fins' are the best; in flat calm or full gale; with or without a deck saloon.

Owner's Comments

Ahmeek has had light use. Her longest voyage was when her previous owner motor sailed her from Poole to Brightlingsea, averaging 5 knots. According to the boat yard and other boat owners, her first owner rarely took her out and then only for a few hours’ motor cruising around Poole Harbour.

I have sailed with my wife (and occasionally grandchildren) around the Essex and Suffolk rivers. The self-tacking jib makes close tacking in rivers very easy and, together with the cockpit reefing lines simplifies single-handed sailing.

Her Nanni 14 HP diesel is a splendid peace-of-mind engine: quiet, easy to start and responsive. The engine consumes about 1.5 litres per hour.

She is very manoeuvrable under engine, with surprisingly little windage

We have greatly enjoyed this style of boat and are now selling because we have bought a larger deck saloon yacht which I hope will be similarly easy and safe to handle.
