Builder's CommentsThe plans for this new sloop have been specially prepared for us by designer C. R. HOLMAN, to combine ease of handling with comfort and speed. A large cockpit for sailing does not intrude upon the spaciousness of her cabin with its 6 ft. headroom. Accommodation is provided for four people and allows for a large galley, separate W.C. compartment together with ample locker and hanging space. A simple yet strong construction of high specification and good craftsmanship ensures a long trouble-free life whilst new materials reduce maintenance problems. J. W. & A. UPHAM LTD. BRIXHAM DEVON
Previous Owner's Comments"Athena O" has had 4 Owners from new and has been maintained in first class condition, latterly by Jim Spencer and Colin White of Brightlingsea. She spent her first 29 years in the West country where she was built; she was cruised extensively in the Western Channel.
I bought her in 1992 and after her refit at Falmouth sailed her to Brightlingsea where she has lived until now. I sailed her to Holland and Denmark, finding her an excellent comfortable sea boat making fast passages. She has cruised round the East Coast as far as Wells, and in 1998 she went to Ireland, as far as the Shannon, making the passage from Cork to Falmouth in 36 hours. Since then I have been able to sail her much less and am sadly selling her, although our grandchildren have started to enjoy sailing in her. Broker's CommentsI have known and admired Athena ever since she arrived on the East Coast in the early 1990s and have witnessed the loving attention given to her during her fit out each year. Her current owner bought her through me last year but has not had the time to be able to enjoy her and has therefore reluctantly decided to sell her. She is a real eye catcher and has proven capability. Whoever buys her will love her. Adrian Espin |
