Owner's Comments

“Banshee” is a late model Macgregor 26C known as the “Classic sail boat” and thought to be the best sailing boat of this size produced by Macgregor. It is roomy and spacious below and above deck and the pop top gives excellent headroom (6ft) . It has a huge double berth at the rear and lots of space in the main seating area as well as ample stowage.

This boat due to its light dry weight is more than happy to be a trailer sailor or kept on a fixed mooring and with the Macgregor easy lift system for the mast it is easily and quickly rigged. The water ballast system works well and is simple to operate.

The boat has been completely refurbished by its present owner and includes all new standing stainless steel wire rigging and rope running rigging, the keel was totally stripped out and refurbished including all new control wires and ropes, a brand new and unused jib sail is also included as well as the roller reefing system which was refurbished in 2004. The bow roller on this type of boat is a potentially weak spot especially if being kept on a mooring so this has been stripped out and a brand new stainless steel bespoke designed installed. The forward hatch is again is a weak spot on this type of boat and they are often warped, to deal with this as well as the lack of light on the berth beneath the old hatch has been removed and a new Vetus Genius hatch with smoked glass has been fitted into a stainless steel cover plate. The old non conforming gas installation has been removed and a brand new (and unused) Origo 3000 double burner non pressurised sprit cooker fitted. The boat also has the benefit of a pop up top which gives lots of extra headroom and also a side cover tent which allows it to be kept that way whilst in use or anchored up for the night.

It also has the full rear stainless steel pushpit and swim ladder which again is an extra for this type of boat. This trailer sailor also has the benefit of the Macgregor “easy lift” mast lifting system.

Needless to say the exterior is in first rate condition having benefited from a complete exterior paint job as well as freshly painted decks.

It is equipped with and includes a 8hp Mariner outboard with remote tank, included but not fitted is a set of “Morse” controls for the engine, I have removed them as I found them to be unnecessary but can easily be re-installed if required.

Additionally and by separate negotiation for the new owner who wishes to use it as a trailer sailor I am willing to sell the 15 month old “Admiral” fully galvanised and adjustable roller coaster trailer which has a two speed winch, 8 sets of rollers (only 6 in use at present as more than enough).

Included in the sale is the US “easy rigger” instructional video which shows how to erect the mast and rig it for launching in an a average of 12 minutes, also builder’s manual instructions on how to sail it

I am happy to deliver the boat for a nominal charge to most places in the UK if required

This must be one of, or possibly the best looking and tidiest Macgregor available today.
