Owner's CommentsCallisto is a serious offshore cruiser with a good pedigree, design. David Thomas the designer, had one himself until 2002. Bob Moore sailed a standard Elizabethan 30 to the Caribbean and back surviving a storm force ten! She is a safe, well balanced, cruiser; you can leave the helm and she stays on course. With her 52 % ballast ratio she is stiff and sea kindly. For her size not many other yachts can match her to windward. Down wind in light airs, however, she needs her spinnaker. We have used her as a cruising boat our eight years, spending our annual holidays and many weekends on her. We have cruised the East Coast, Calais and the Belgian coast including several trips to Ostende. She is stable and easily driven under power, but as with all fin and skeg designs she is predictably unpredictable astern until you get used to her. She sails at 5-6 knots in a nice breeze and cruises at 5 knots under power. She loves to go to windward in a force five to six. With two reefs and three quarters genoa she settles down and drives to windward. She is very safe and stable in heavy weather. A yachting magazine described her a s a wolf in sheep's clothing. She was also voted the best value for money cruiser in another magazine - beating the Contessa 32. We are selling to buy our son in law's Contessa 32, a very similar yacht. We have loved her since day one. Roger B
