Owner's Comments
Damaris (ex-Wanton) is still varnished as original (just re-done June 07) and has had an illustrious career in racing. She is still in excellent condition which bears testimony to the build quality.
We bought her to take part in occasional classic boat races and for cruising with our young family. She has won classic boat races in both Plymouth and Fowey over the last two years, including overall race winner at Fowey Classics 2006 and was presented with the Trafalgar Cup.
We also have cruised her to the Scillies for the last 2 years and in total have spent 7 weeks on board (including our 4 year old son)! She is a very capable, fast and comfortable yacht which I am sure could go on to give future owners much pleasure as we have carried out considerable updating and there is little left to do. I bought this boat from a friend who had owned it for 2 years and she was still quite basic inside. I did all the work listed under 2005 to get her ready to enter the Plymouth – Fowey - Falmouth Classic Boat events and then cruise further west to the Scillies. The work in 2006 was the less essential work which I did over the winter to bring her up to a good standard. In 2006 we did the classic rallies again and visited the Scilly Isles for 3 weeks having lovely family holidays! The boat is structurally very sound and after fitting new ribs and we have sailed her in quite rough conditions and have had no worries at all (with our 5 year old son on board too). I spent £2,500 in all on the refit and I think, other than needing occasional varnish work, there would be little to do to keep her maintained in good condition. The boat was featured in Classic Boat issue number 221 (Nov 2006), where there is a good write up on the Fowey Classics which we have competed in for the last 2 years. She has proven to be a fast boat , having won in her class at Plymouth Classics 2005 and Fowey Classics 2006 as well as the Trafalgar Cup (FC). We have also cruised her to the Scillies and am only selling her as we have another child on the way! |
