Yachts and yachting Feb 26th 1960"This little clinker-built three/four berther, called the "Mapleleaf" built by Chandler and Smith of Russell Gardens, Wickford, Essex, will float wherever the water is deep enough to wet a pretty girls bathing costume". Her centreboard ensures windward performance but she should make useful progress upwind with the board raised, providing conditions are not unreasonably rough. Owner's CommentsWe have owned Enchantress since late 1992 and have sailed her as a family yacht in the East Coast Rivers areas of Suffolk, Essex and Kent. Using Jack Coote's "East Coast Rivers" as a guide we have explored up the rivers into the shallows. With the centre plate up she draws only 2ft 6ins and with the muddy creeks it did not matter if we touched or dries out at night. It was part of the fun.
We have also sailed her to the canals and lakes of Southern Holland and to Calais and Dunkirk in Northern France . We have thoroughly enjoyed the yacht and have become very attached to her. Enchantress has a lot of space below for her size and the shallow draft is so helpful when sailing on the East Coast. We have had lots of fun sailing her.
