26 FT SCOD (South Coast One Design) "Firecracker"

Concourse condition 

Professionally and Entirely Restored

Firecracker Sail No 69 underwent a thorough two year rebuild and restoration in 2005 by N Gates and Co including new decks, coachroof, cockpit. Also the cabin sides were veneered and topsides resplined She was returned to as new condition.

45 000 spent on parts, labour, and new fittings, rigging, sails and fitments.

A full history file exists with original plans documents and invoices for all work during rebuild and since during annual upkeep. It makes very interesting reading! 

Since, she has undergone professional regular maintenance and upgrading by N Gates  Co, on behalf of the current owner maintaining her condition.

She is regarded as the best South Coast One Design in existence.

A popular Charles Nicholson design she was built at Burnes Shipyard Bosham in 1962

All SCODs built by Burnes were built to very high standards, planked in Lagos Mahogany, laid on Rock Elm timbers and fastened with copper.

Her second owner was, in fact, the yard owner David Bowker, who himself was Olympic Sailing Silver medal winner winning the 1965 Hebe Trophy.

Firecracker has been restored to original plans and scantlings precisely with minimum maintenance in mind.
She retains the same look and feel as the day she was built with many original features including re chromed clock and barometer and original refurbished heads! (now a very expensive item).

She is totally unmolested and not suffering from years of modification by strings of owners!

Measured and conforms to ISP Class Racing . Certificate Issued 

Incorporated in the rebuild were a number of improvements eliminating the known short comings of the class including the re fitting of the iron floors with those of bronze and the mast step mechanism improved.

Recent additions include fitting of 

Auto tiller pilot
Lazyjack system
Jib stowage bag for foredeck mounting. Allows the jib to be always hanked on but stowed and raised easily and quickly.

After rebuild she was soon on the sailing circuit. She races very well and has won/been placed in several round Island events.

But she also is just as happy as a fast cruiser

She is a very comfortable, long keel boat ,safe and easy to handle 

Truly a "classsic" featured in several press articles and a boat that attracts attention everywhere she goes

Ready to race ,cruise . Only wind required !!

Her present owner would like her to go to someone who will utilise her in the correct manner and maintain her impeccable condition.
