I bought Iona as I had heard good reports over the years that the Hunter 27 was fast, easy handled and had an open plan layout. It was Ideal for my partner and family. With the open plan cabin with loads of room for the size of the boat compared with other boats on the market and with good sailing performance. I often sail on my own and I find her very simple and a pleasure to sail, every line is near to hand and leading to the cockpit, plus I can reef without requiring too much deck work - very handy when wanting to pick up a mooring or close sailing in a busy river. I hardly use the engine in that situation, I can tack up the river with just the jib up, leaving the main stowed. I have mainly cruised her on the East Coast Rivers and have had many day sails just on the river Colne. Having bilge keels and only drawing 1 m, if you happen to go aground - just wait for the tide - no leaning over - unlike keel boats. Around four times a season I put her on the slipway to scrub off - no expense or marina bills. |
