The previous owner, a sea captain, purchased the yacht as "LIFE BEGINS" in 1983 from the original owner. On retirement in January 1999, my wife and I purchased the yacht from him wanting a yacht which had a shallow draught and standing headroom, that sailed well and which was well suited to sailing the Essex and Suffolk coasts and rivers.
We renamed her “OISIN “ after the Irish folk law tale of the prince that was turned into a STAG. Before launching her we, had the bottom recoated with Epoxy VC Tar (was originally coated with VC tar in 1987/88). Also, the centreboard was regalvanised, as was the anchor chain. The centreboard lifting wire and links were also renewed and a new nylon pivot pin bush installed.
Toughened glass windows in aluminium frames replaced the old bolt-on plastic type in 2005.
“OISIN” sails well on all points, often keeping up with, or sailing past much larger boats. She is light on the helm and is a dry and comfortable boat under sail and is easily manoeuvred both ahead and astern under engine. We, and our family and friends, have enjoyed many happy times afloat in her over the last ten years of ownership. |
