"Paddy's Boat" 13ft Rowing and Sailing Dinghy Lying Brightlingsea, Essex.
The dinghy has been mainly used for day sailing on the East Coast, for exploring the rivers and estuaries of the Colne, Blackwater, Walton Backwaters and as far afield, in a day from Brightlingsea, as Maldon and the River Crouch.
She has proved to be an excellent sea boat, safe for both family and single-handed sailing, due to her wide beam and low-aspect sail plan.
The clinker construction and generous freeboard makes her very dry in choppy conditions rarely requiring to be bailed.
She sails very well on all points and makes good progress against wind and tide.
Long before I knew Paddy, I had seen him out sailing this super little boat, usually on his own, pottering around Brightlingsea Creek and the river Colne. I saw him almost as often cleaning her and maintaining her in his garage.
Here is a boat that has been used often but has also been superbly maintained. I know that she has given him a great deal of pleasure, in building, sailing and maintaining. He will be sorry when she goes, but is already planning his next boat.
