Builder's CommentsThe Sadler marque is, without doubt, one of the most highly regarded names in performance cruisers today. Every yacht in the distinguished Sadler family has set standards in terms of seaworthiness, comfort and – perhaps most important of all – sheer popularity with the cruising yachtsman. SPACE. The 26's standing headroom will come as a pleasant surprise, as will her sleeping accommodation: a spacious double berth in the forecabin, a main saloon berth that can be used as a large single or a cosy double, a full-sized quarter-berth, and a child's berth that can be easily extended with a trotter box to sleep an adult. The extra room and efficient utilisation of space makes the Sadler 26 one of the few 26-footers truly suited to long cruises with a family crew. THOUGHTFUL DESIGN. The attention to detail and careful design evident throughout the Sadler 26 should come as no surprise: its designers have drawn on a wealth of experience gained from three outstandingly successful Sadlers. As a result, thoughtful features abound. Handholds are plentiful, and there are no sharp corners. Deep coamings make the cockpit safe for the younger members of the crew, while offering protection from spray and heavy seas. Generous storage space means that you can cruise with everything you need, yet keep the living area free from clutter. Like all Sadlers, the interior of the 26 is a self-contained module within the hull. This keeps the accommodation completely watertight, and provides a smooth, finished appearance inside. All hull cavities are foam-filled for unsinkability and insulation. Another Sadler trademark is the rudder, which is hung on a full-length skeg. Apart from making the rudder stronger and more protected, the rudder/skeg combination provides remarkable directional stability when the helm is temporarily left unattended. Performance is always on instant call. Run up the spinnaker and she will leap eagerly to the challenge. Turn her into the wind and her pointing ability and light helm will surprise you. Send her charging downwind and she'll show effortless speed and control. While the Sadler 26's remarkable roominess and comfort is certainly appealing, there's one question bound to be uppermost in the minds of those who know the Sadler 25: Does she sail and handle like the 25? The answer: an unequivocal 'No'. She's better. The centre of gravity is deliberately low, with her 2000lb keel offsetting the tremendous power of her rig. This approach ensures that the 26 has the impeccable sailing manners and 'stiffness' associated with all Sadlers. Her balance is simply excellent, the feel on her helm reassuringly positive. The way she responds and her eagerness to travel quickly will tell you that she is no oversized daysailer; this is a yacht you can sail round Britain or to the Azores with complete confidence.
