Owner's Comments
Resume of condition at October 2006 & detail of refit completed October 2007Before I purchased her. Regnum had been maintained in service with Chichester Harbour Conservancy in the harbour since her completion by Osbourne's of Littlehampton in 1962. On inspection the hull was found to be in excellent condition all through-hull fittings were sounded and found good, there was no sign of exterior decay and further inspection in the bilges confirmed a decision not to disturb a very sound & true hull. The interior required extensive stripping, cleaning and re-varnishing. Varnished used throughout was Ephiphanes. The engine had been regularly serviced, started immediately and runs well. The general electrics needed an overhaul and all redundant wires removing. The re-fit has been carried out by professional shipwrights, marine engineers and the owner, now retired, with 40 years experience in the marine trade building boats and restoring both wood & GRP craft. The restoration of Regnum was undertaken as a retirement project and the cost of materials & subcontracted labour is in the region of £25,000. Work undertaken: Engine: engine oil changed, all filters replaced. Prop shaft replaced and all bearings and C.V. joints renewed. Engine driven bilge &. freshwater pump impellers renewed.
Decks: re-surfaced & re-payed. Toe & gunwale rails replaced. New gunmetal bollards, cleats, fairleads and stem-roller fitted. Rebuilt anchor winch. New 4" traditional coir rope fender fitted. Wheelhouse: stripped to bare wood inside and out and repainted & varnished. Signal mast refurbished and new navigation lights fitted. Cockpit floor: refitted with I" Iroko throughout. Bilges: All loose paint removed degreased pressure washed - rubbed down & repainted, five cracked timbers repaired. Forepeak: refurbished and new Jabsco heads installed. Cockpit: interior topsides stripped to bare wood and re-varnished, all benches removed, repaired where necessary, stripped and re-varnished 5 coats. Engine case: new in teak and Iroko, with Halyard Marine sound deadening. Steering: rudder complete refit, stock re-built, all metal fittings replaced where necessary.
Hull Exterior: - Above waterline -- original varnish sanded back to sound & re-varnished. Note. new antifouling will be done prior to re-commissioning. Original construction drawings are available. |
