Sails and Deck Gear

Spars
 | The mast is Sitka spruce, hollow box section approx 6" x 5" max, and was stripped down to bare wood and treated with 3 coats of Owatrol followed by 8 coats of schooner varnish. All fittings in steel were re-galvanised. All in 2003 |
 | All halliards and spinnaker topping lift run through clutches on the forward side of the mast
Served by Antal chrome winch (2002). |
 | Spinnaker pole (varnished Sitka spruce) stows on dedicated track on forward side of mast, making deploying and stowage very easy. |
 | Boom is Sitka spruce, varnished, with 3 sets of slab reefing lines to bee blocks running to clutches under boom served by small Simpson Lawrence chrome winch. |

All sails have been valeted and any repairs or modifications carried out every winter, so I would describe the sails as being in good condition
The headsails are all hanked on, which gives a superior performance to roller furled sails.

Because of the fractional rig, the mainsail is quite large and the fore sails do not have to be changed as frequently as on a modern sloop, making sail handling fairly easy.
 | Reefing gear: The mainsail is fitted with 3 sets of slab reefing points served by clutches and a winch |
 | Winches: 1 on mast, one on boom, and two sheet winches. All chrome. |
