Sausalito was designed by Raymond Wall – head of design at C&N through 1970’s – She has been sailed far and wide in her career and was owned for many years by Colonel Dick Stevens who sailed her well into his eighties (he was at Arnheim in WW2). He kept her at Newport IOW and cruised her annually to places like Eire and the Baltic. She was mentioned in his Times Obituary in 2000 (copy with ship’s papers). I have owned her since 2000 and have enjoyed sailing her immensely (mostly s/h). She instils total confidence with her sea-kindly motion and easy handling. The variable-pitch propeller makes handling under engine remarkably easy for a long-keeler.
She was fitted out to full MCA charter spec in the 2003 season and so carries a high level of fittings. A cockpit tent/cover was made up in 2003 with clear window panels, zipped doors (port and stb’d) with and matching dodgers. This works really well, when spending time on a mooring, with either the top only, as an awning, or fully deployed for protecting the teak cockpit from the elements. The teak bulwarks have been recently stripped and I have just been maintaining them with teak oil through the season. The Eberspacher heating system was installed in 2002 and keeps her really warm for early/late season trips and chilly nights. She has been maintained to a high standard throughout my ownership and needs no work other than normal end of season chores, which I will be carrying out normally. Full ownership details come with the part 1 registration documents.
