Refurbishment

Spindrift was substantially rebuilt between 1990 and 1995.
1. Some hull planking replaced with larch
2. Stern apron replaced with Pitch pine apron
3. 4 replacement frames in saloon and six in the stern, all made from straight grained American oak 3"x 3 " 10' laminated in situ.
4. 10 replaced timbers sistered to existing timbers 2 x 3 Ash laminated to 1 1/2 in thickness
5. Main frame and timbers copper fastened.
6. Planking fastened with 3" x No.12 silicon bronze screws
7. Elm floor sistered to existing floors fastened through hull with 3" x No. 12 silicon bronze screws, new keel bolts through floors, hog and
keel. 7/8 steel bar Japanned head with hexagonal nut inboard onto steel plate athwart new floor and existing floor. Keel bolts are of BS EN8
steel.
8. Hull corked and splined, oakum below the waterline and corking cotton above the waterline. Sealed with Purflex.
9. Fore deck, new beams of Elm and decked with 3/16 marine ply fixed with Gripfast bronze nails. Teak planking laid on top in traditional manner
with king plank ( no covering boards )
10. Standing rigging, replaced with 10mm galvanised 7 stranded wire, all hand spliced onto galvanised thimbles.
11. Running rigging, replaced with 10mm Hempoline ( Polypropylene hemp look a-like )
12. Various new blocks
13. New 6" gunwale made from Sitka spruce with Iroko capping.
14. new Iroko gas locker fixed to Port side foredeck
15. New Galvanised Steel standing rigging fitted ,2009.
16. New water tank fitted, 2009
17. Pig iron ballast replaced by lead, 2009
18. New Jabsco toilet with new skin fittings and hoses ,2009
19. New heads Stainless Steel wash basin, 2009
20. Electrics completely rewired
21. Shorepower installation - with battery charger, 2009
22. new Saloon, Heads, and forepeak lights, 2009
23. New Starboard cockpit locker, 2009
24. Engine overhauled, 2009
25. New Yard trolley, 2009
26. Forehatch rebuilt with Iroko, 2009
27. Many new blocks on running rigging, 2009
