Owner's Comments

Solitaire was fully refurbished in 2006/07 and included the hull and keels being shot blasted and fully epoxy treated. Most of the interior woodwork was replaced or refurbished, new metal-framed windows were fitted along with a new forward hatch with blind.

All the upholstery was renewed including the interior lining. The cockpit has been fitted with new flexi teak decking. A new sink and cooker were also installed along with a new gas system. The galley also includes a microwave, powered by a Honda silent generator.

The boat was fitted with all new standing rigging including a new Sailspar roller reefing gear, a stainless steel tabernacle and single-handed mast lowering system, designed by Sailspar.

The refurbishment also included a new plastic fuel tank, and a new water tank and pumped system, a new Jabsco toilet and all new plumbing.

The boat has a Volvo 2002 engine, which has done approx 700 hours and is in excellent condition. The Volvo sail drive has been fully serviced with new seals and a new prop. All new anodes were fitted to engine, leg and hull.

All the main electrics have been renewed and there are twin batteries fitted.

The boat is fitted with a Navman chart plotter and echo sounder/fish finder, Husun VHF radio, autopilot, and a Nasa battery monitor.

All the deck fittings were removed and resealed; new s/s slides were fitted to the main hatch.

The sails were serviced in 2007 and a new sacrificial strip fitted.

Solitaire sails well, cruises at 4-5knots under sail and at up to 6 knots under power.  She is easy to control going both ahead and astern, and her shallow draft and ability to take the ground make her ideal for the Thames Estuary and similar shallow waters.

Her inside helm position comes into its own in the pouring rain - when others, less fortunate, are getting soaked!

After all of this work on her,  which I have fully enjoyed, the family have now decided that they want to go racing!
