Tidewitch was built by Norman Goodwin at Walton on the Naze over a period of six years & was first launched at Bedwells yard in 1986. We have owned Tidewitch for nearly fifteen years, during which time we have explored all the far reaches of the East Coast. Being shallow draft & with the ability to take the ground she is perfect for playing Swallows & Amazons, but in great comfort. We have regularly enjoyed trips to the Deben, Ore, Alde, Orwell, Stour, Blackwater & Colne. We have had many admiring glances & a number of people have sent us their photographs of "Tidewitch", both at anchor & under sail.
From our mooring in Walton on the Naze we are able to pass the Pye End buoy at low water springs when other deeper draft boats are forced to anchor to await the tide. We have found her to be safe, very stiff & very comfortable in all conditions. On one occasion we sailed with reefed jib only from West Mersea to Walton Backwaters with ease in a force 8. She is a great boat for entertaining with a large comfortable & light Saloon with a large table. We have enjoyed the heater during early Summer & Autumn days. When other boats are charging about in a blow at anchor or on a mooring, she will sit quietly head to wind. |
